Great Hostel........undergoing change! by Lee Hines
I can honestly say that this hostel has changed, the new guys that have taken over are doing everything in there power to change the reputation of the hostel, and the poor people have taken on a challenge, i'd heard stories of this place when i arrived in Brisbane and as everywhere else was full had to book in and i was pleasantly surprised when i arrived, after speaking to the other backpackers about my worries i was informed that unfortunately the previous manager had really let the hostel down and Chris and Jodie were now working really hard to get it back on track...and they are, the place was getting a clean the next day when i woke up, i woke up to walls being washed and the kitchen being pulled apart and they are so friendly, unfortunately i couldn't stay for the Sunday fun (BBQ and Quiz) but i will definitely be passing on my positive comments to future backpackers, my advice to anyone looking to stay, go and form your own opinion as new management have really put the warmth and kindness back into the place and i wish them all the luck in the world and hope it doesn't take too long for the word to spread!
I have been backpacking for the last 8 months and have never felt the need to comment on a hostel to this date. Blue tongue is an terrible hostel! The rooms smell absolutely disgusting (dirt and damp). There is only one bathroom for all of the guests and it is a definite health hazard. They really do make you wash your own sheets before handing them back, and expect you to also pay for this (soap, wash machine and dryer). If you dont do this you lose your deposit. They have a note on the shower doors telling you not to shower for long. If you do , yet again u lose your deposit! They charge you extra if you check in after 3pm! Finally after already spending a night with them and planning to stay another (out of pure necessity, NOT desire) we told the guy on reception on our second morning that we would be staying that night but needed to get out cash so would pay him later that day. We went out for the day. when we came back that evening and offered him the money for that night he told us to give it to him in the morning. When we went to pay him this morning he charged us ANOTHER 10 dollars because we "didnt pay him last night". We offered him this payment the day before and HE delayed it beacause we "came back too late with the money and the office was close". I have never been so disgusted with a hostel until now and would strongly advise you to stay somewhere else..ANYWHERE else!
