We were travelling North late one nite, It was pissing down, cold, we were tired lost souls and hungry. Wow what a funny little town, could not get into the backpackers, working farm hostel only apparently, didn't look very nice anyway and this Greek guy at this seedy motel was rude. All the other motels!!! looked like dives, were wolf creek could be a sequel no 2. We missed the Townsville Turn off, driveing god knows to where, when we came across this nice old place that had these lanterns lit out the front and this big Old Labrador dog at the front. Well we stumbled apon the Riverlodge in Innisfail they call it a Riverlodge tropcial Motel, but it's really like this big old guesthouse. This really young couple own and run it. They were really friendly and gave us a towel because we were pissing wet. Bought us inside, we were having a bad night, lost and not to mention our shit heap of a car konked it. We asked about a room but they were booked out, but said they had an old barrack cabin, with a double bed and tele out the back, even had air-con. Bit outdoors though had to walk through the pissin rain to the toilet and shower block, only charged us $25 cash for the night, blimy bargain. Real nice people at the Innisfail Riverlodge Tropcial Motel. The owner Paula, even bought some yummy currie out to us and some magazines and yes dry towels too. This place was so awsame to wake up to in the morning, it was all misty out the back over the sugar cane. They were really busy in the kitchen the next morning cooking all their guests brekkie and some snotty nosed little kids running around. Asked us did we want to earn some extra money. We stayed to help for brekkie, helped clean some rooms and ended staying another couple of nites in return for some work. They told us of some good spots to go to. The definite highlight was stumbling apon the Riverlodge Tropical Motel and discovering Paronella Park, just down the road a little. Apparently they at the Riverlodge Motel don't normally take in backpackers but if you are lost, tired, had enough, they have some budget cabins out the back. by the way thankyou so much Riverlodge, Paula and Neville for helping us get our car started, the petrol was a real help, curry was real nice too, we won't forget you guys.
