This is perhaps the best hostel I have ever stayed at...! The staff were wonderful and really helpful, especially Miss Shen on the tourism desk. The breakfast buffet which was 27RMB was excellent value and filled me up for the entire day. The showers were powerful and clean and the bedrooms (I stayed in the hostel part of the complex) were comfortable.
When you first arrive you think you've arrived in the middle of a shanty town... but don't let the funny little street its on put you off; I came to find it quite endearing! I rented a bike from the shop next door to the hostel and explored much of Beijing that way. However, the hostel's location is ideal and quite close to The Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square etc. so you can do much on foot.
I met some amazing people here and will definately stay there again when I return.
Beijing Far East International Youth Hostel, accepted as the best hostel in Beijing, is situated in a preserved and protected Hutong area, typical local residency neighborhood, 10 minutes' walk away from the alleyways to Tian'anmen Square, Qianmen Business center and forbidden City. the well known LIU LI CHANG Cultural Street is only 5 minutes walk.The hostel was the former residence of a warlord in the beginning of the last century.
It is in a traditional Chinese courtyard attached to the main building as a comfortable hotel and the courtyard are built in the style of Qing dynasty, quiet and comfortable. You can take a traditional rickshaw or a self-guided map tour to explore the area. Many of the historical attractions including Tian'anmen Square, Forbidden City, Liulichang (Antique Market) and Former embassy area... Our hostel also provides bicycle rentals so that the visitors may enjoy Hutong Area at their own pace. We guarantee that your stay at Beijing Far East International Youth Hostel will be an unforgettable experience of Beijing and China. It is a very good choice.
