Location is good if you need big supermarket nearby but its too far to walk downtown (regardless of what they tell you) and after 5pm (dark), its not safe to walk at all. So prepare cash for taxi or time to explore complicated bus routes for downtown.
Private room+bathroom not very clean and very very old (falling apart in some areas). Kitchen OK, common area OK but too loud TV watching (if you are in private room). Internet access is fast, which is a plus!
For that price you can find other accomodation more in the centre (other hostels) and new ones, as well.
Staff friendly and OK but not very interested.
The best place i found in Costa Rica, it's a quiet place, the stuff is so friendly, it's close to the downtown, banks,airport.
Just the place to be.
Gaudys is a fantastic place to stay. The owners are incredibily friendly. I stayed there with a group of fourteen, and they made every effort to make sure we had the best holiday possible, making phonecalls for us due to our lack of Spanish, and giving us general advice about San Jose and Costa Rica. Even when they were fully booked they made sure anyone who wanted a bed got one, even if it was on the sofa or in the box room! The two garden areas bring the outside in and are a great place to relax. This place is the perfect budget accommodation and I highly recommend it.
Guadys is a very relaxing hotel. The layout is beautiful with open enclosures and hammocks with a view of the beautiful Costa Rica sky. These open enclosures have patios and dinning areas to relax and eat. There is an open kitchen so you can cook your favorite foods for your friends and guests; it really is a home a way from home. I stayed there 6 weeks and worked over the internet which is high speed. The owners and staff are all family so it is no wonder that they are so nice to their guests. The service was exceptional and professional. One of the best parts of the experience were the exceptional international people I met and had the privilege of Dinning with, I made many friends that to this day I communicate with over the internet. At one point the gracias owners accompanied me and another hotel guest out for dinner, they are truly good people. I will stay at Guadys the next time I visit San Jose Costa Rica, with friends.
This place was the friendliest of all the places that I stayed in central america, the staff are always willing to talk to you if you make an effort with your spanish no matter how bad it is! They made you feel like you were coming home, I stayed there a few times and even when there was a couple of months gap in between my visits they still recognised me and had time to chat. Most of the guests that stay there are great too, I met many fantastic people at guadys. If you are you are looking for somewhere cheap and friendly go here!!!!!
Best place to be and to meet others. Only $7 a night and $20 for double or private rooms. Right in the main street of downtown San Jose and very close to the airport and bus stations. Free internet 24/7,free coffee and tea all day,Kitchen facilities,Tv room, hot showers...all within a lovely house and nice garden! Come here and feel like at home ! Our staff will be available 24 hours a day!! We will help you with all information that you need about your travelling in Costa rica!!
