Wow, what a place. This really is a hostel from heaven. The building itself is unbelievable. Beautifully maintained with impeccible standards. Our en-suite bathroom was cleaned twice a day. Everything is brand new. Great beds with fresh linen. I could sunbathe privately on the balcony. The location is ideal and very pretty with the park a stone's throw away. The nicest staff you could wish for. So helpful and knowledgeable. Super friendly whilst still maintaining professionalism. When they say they speak English, French and Spanish they mean it. All the family are fluent! You are guaranteed a memorable stay.
Our Story
Well the children won, they didn’t want to sell the old white elephant and they figured out a way to keep it in the family, a hostel right in the center of the historic district, surrounded by discos, bars, museums, galleries, universities and theatres, right in front of the National Park. This great old house, all 3000 square feet of it was declared part of the countries historic patrimony five years ago, an old art-deco with some art noveaux details. It was the first house built in front of the Park, hence its name.
Federico the manager, with his wacky sense of humour and his penchant for organization is making a go of it. Roberto Zeledon, his great-grand-father built this house when he came back from Europe in the 1930’s. To the Costa Rica he was one of the great coffee barons, to us he was just Grand-dad. Strong as an ox, efficient with an axe or machete, a believer in the “moderne”. A man of vision, of the future, he enjoyed the company of young people, he would be proud to know his great-grandson came up with the idea to keep the 5 generation family home. Like his great-grand-father, Federico enjoys quality, from the “real” hotel beds, sheets and pillows to the double sets of warm cozy fleece blankets, big cotton towels and the beautiful new bathrooms , night stands, lockers, free luggage storage and no curfew. Did I mention the balconies off the bedrooms, or the third floor terrace with a view of the city and the mountains?
Maximum 8 beds to a bedroom, lots of space. Right in front of the Park, just across the street.
A breakfast room, complimentary coffee and tea, access to toaster oven, microwave and a block away from a Mom and Pop store for sandwiches or toiletries and basics. .
She is our official French translator who enjoys writing poetry among other things. She inherits her talent from her Dad, Jose Rafael Echeverria, a national mystic poet. Alejandro, the youngest is a very ready to help type. He appears quiet at first but you will quickly realize he’s great conversation, an electro mechanic student.
Federico organizes tours wherever you want to go including the largest private intermountain reserve on the Pacific in the Americas, no other organization has access to it, Tiquires, In-bio biologists found two new families of plants within their first day on the ranch.

About us
Hostel Casa Del Parque is located in the historic district of San Jose right in front of the National Park. A few minutes stroll through nice parks will take you to the real heart of San Jose. Many of the city’s main attractions such as museums, National Theater, shopping district, restaurants, casinos, bars, etc are just a short walk away. The hostel is an Art Deco home built in the 1930´s and a very personal atmosphere offering a home base for your trip in Costa Rica.
People visiting Costa Rica for vacation, come to our hostel on arriving in the country, enjoy San Jose and relax a bit before taking off to explore Costa Rica. At the end of their trip, before leaving the country they stay with us again.
There are taxi, train, and bus stops crossing the street from the hostel. The airport is about 20 minutes away. We also offer special rates for long stays.
We offer 14 comfortable beds with real mattresses in dorm style rooms of 6 to 8 beds and one double room. We have five full newly remodeled bathrooms with hot water. There is also a common room equipped with cable TV, free internet, and coffee.
The hostel also offers, ample lockers, free luggage storage, near by parking facilities during the night, and very pleasant front desk employees who can help you with the arrangement of tours, car rentals, and other travel information. We speak English, Spanish, and French,

All our beds have real comfortable mattresses, with nice clean white sheets, cozy fleece blankets, a night stand, and a locker. Connecting rooms are available for groups.

$10 including taxes per night per bed in dorm style room
$30 including taxes per night for double room
We accept US dollars, and Euros.
We offer 10 to 20 percent discounts for long stays.

Hostel Casa Del Parque is located on the corner of 3rd avenue and 19th street in Barrio La California. The hostel is within walking distance of all main attractions of San Jose, such as the National Theater, museums, restaurants, bars, casinos, etc.
From the airport to the hotel will take about 20 minutes by taxi.
