I really loved this place. From the second you walk in, you can sense a great energy. The owners, Rebecca and Doug really created a great, relaxing place to stay. Rooms are clean and spacious. It is located a bit out of the center of town surrounded by gorgeous scenery and they will call you a cab anytime to get to town, or you easily walk the short distance. Great place for a quiet night's sleep and a real, hot shower. Rebecca prepares meals and snacks you can purchase and they were delicious. She also has a massage therapist that can do massages, facials and other treatments right in the hostel for great prices. I really do not stay in hostels much anymore but have stayed in plenty throughout my travels and this was one of the best ones ever.

Undoubtedly the best place we have stayed in on our South American adventure. The pros: (1) gorgeous house with clean and spacious bedrooms, bathrooms and communal areas (2) steaming hot high pressure showers (we've found this a rarity in South America!) (3) fantastic breakfast - fresh fruit from the garden, juice, homemade granola, sourdough bread still warm from the oven, a huge selection of jams and marmalades, teas, coffees and hot chocolate (4) a freezer full of yummy soups, stews and curries which provide a really budget-friendly alternative to eating out (5) a dvd collection to rival any dvd rental shop (6) free high speed internet (7) massages and facials in-house (highly recommended!) (8) really fantastic host family - Rebecca, Doug and John - who have both immense local knowledge on restaurants, walking trails, tours etc and a very genuine interest in ensuring that everyone has a great stay in Banos.. All in all, it is very obvious that real thought and consideration has gone into every aspect of Casa Verde, and it is a fantastic place to stay. As for the cons: there really weren’t any for us – the house is ~15-20min walk ($1.25 by taxi/ <20c by bus) into the centre of town, but for us the peaceful location was perfect.

Doug and Rebecca are perfect hosts at a welcoming hostel. Little Jonathan will be quick to say hello as well. Breakfasts are great, fridge stocked and the food available in the freezer sound healthy and yummy. The rooms are nice and the beds are so comfortable! The location is a nice walk from town to be in a quiet location. The setting is very relaxing. Definitely a hotel we are looking forward to returning to.

I visited Ecuador this summer for language studies, and needed to recharge my batteries before returning to my job. La Casa Verde was the perfect place to do so! Doug and Rebecca are wonderful and attentive hosts, the rooms are extremely comfortable, the views are great, and the breakfasts are superb! If you're visiting Banos, you can't do better than La Casa Verde!

We were in a rush to book a hostel and needed to do it online b/c it was a holiday weekend in August, and la casa verde was one of the only ones still available -- so we went with it. When we arrived in Banos and got there, we were amazed with how beautiful the place was, and how accommodating the owners were! Their son was the cutest little thing and the couple made themselves very available to us for questions and recommendations. We met several travelers there and the environment definitely facilitated comfort and camaraderie among the guests. Whenever I make it back to Banos, this is definitely where I will be staying!

I planned on staying for 2 nights and ended up staying for 5. This hostel is perfect for families or travelers looking to relax and stay at a nice and clean place for a cheaper price than you would pay at other hotels of similar quality. The owners Rebecca and Doug are super friendly and helpful, breakfast was delicious and they even offer home-cooked ready meals if you are too tired to head out. The location slightly outside of town is perfect as it offers a quiet setting and stunning views of the river and mountains whilst still being within walking distance (20 min) or you can take a cab (which there are plenty) for USD 1.50 to town

We read the other great reviews for La Casa Verde, and this hostel lives up to all of the amazing reviews. It was incredible. Owned by a friendly, down to earth couple with an adorable little boy, La Casa Verde is about 2 km outside of Banos on a rushing river. It is very peaceful and idyllic, and it costs only $1.25 in a taxi to head into town. There were lots of other travellers staying there, and we all agreed that it was the BEST place to stay in Banos (and we are the type who normally like to stay right in town). Breakfast is homemade every morning (fresh bread, tomatoes and avocados from the garden, fresh squeezed juice from the garden, coffee, granola, homemade yogurt). Doug and Rebecca are incredibly knowledgeable (and so friendly!) about the surrounding area. They sent us on unique hikes that we never could have found on our own, to viewing points for the volcano, great restaurants, and even to the nearby monkey refuge where monkeys literally cuddle and play with you for hours. We stayed in the superior double room, and it was gorgeous. We fell asleep to the rushing river every night in extremely comfortable beds (my favorite part). They even can book you a massage at the hostel for $25. My husband and I had two each! We went to Banos with friends, and we all agreed when we left that staying at La Casa Verde made our trip what it was! I highly recommend it and I could write so much more! One note: When we pulled up, we were a little surprised by the exterior because the hostel is still a work in progress. But from the inside it is stunning. You won't be disappointed!

La Casa Verde Eco-hostel offers everything you could want in a hostel: warm, friendly, helpful eco-conscious owners(Doug, Rebecca and John---the BEST), THE most outstanding breakfast of any hostel I've visited---homemade sourdough bread, cheeses, jams, veggies from their organic garden, homemade organic granola, yogurt, fresh juice, coffee/tea/hot chocolate---and killer brownies for later! The rooms are clean, crisp, and spacious with plenty of natural sunlight and hot water(not to mention in ear-shot of the Pastaza River). And, as if this isn't enough, in-house massage, wi-fi, an extensive dvd collection, and a fully functioning kitchen are also included. Rave reviews for this hostel abound---it is truly the Best of Banos!

I stayed at La Casa Verde just a few km outside of Banos for 2 nights Feb 2010 and have to say it was an excellent experience. Doug, Rebecca & young son, John, made my friend and I feel at home. I don't think I've ever met more welcoming people! They provided us with fantastic & helpful advice about the surrounding area. The breakfasts were the BEST! The beds were the most comfortable that I slept in during my whole 2 weeks in Ecuador...and it was SO peaceful at night...just the sound of the rushing river...I slept like a baby. Loved our balcony with the colourful hammocks...the rooms bright and clean and airy...lots of hot water in the showers. It was close enough to town to easily and quickly get to Banos (lazy us, we'd take a taxi for $1.50-$2)...yet far enough from Banos to escape the noise. It's also in a safe area of Banos, on the evacuation route. Even after our stay there, when we had moved into town, Doug & Rebecca still provided us with assistance when we called for advice! My friend left her camera there by accident and Rebecca kindly met us in town and returned it. I absolutely give this place the highest praise, it felt so homey & comfortable...would return in a heartbeat.

For us, this was the perfect hotel. Its location (along the river and just off the main road outside of the town center) was perfect for us as it was tranquil and quiet, yet still easy to get to everything. The rooms themselves are big, bright, and airy. The beds are super comfortable and the shower pressure is to die for! The owners are incredibly kind, and will go out of their way to help you plan your day, and are great to chat with. The breakfasts they serve are buffet style with REAL coffee (!!!!!), lots of fresh fruit, homemade yogurt and, the highlight for me, the owner’s freshly baked sourdough bread. This is a great home-away-from-home to relax in or use as a base for your adventures in the area.

You will never find a better place to feel at home. The homemade bread and granola, jams and homegrown fruit for breakfast are just part of what makes this place special

Our 5 day reservation at Casa Verde turned into 11 days, and even then we didn't want to leave. It was, without a doubt, our favourite hostel in all of South America and definitely excllent value for money! Clean rooms, comfortable beds, hot, powerful showers, lovely kitchen facilities and the breakfast was delicious and easily extended into a long brunch. Rebecca and Doug, the ownners, really made us feel at home and they are also very well informed about everthing to do in the local area, especially in regards to less touristy walks near the hostel. We loved the fact that Casa Verde is practically next door to Spa Resort El Refugio which offers a selection of very relaxing treatments at cheaper prices than the places in town. Casa Verde is a gorgeous house, with stunning views and we totally enjoyed drinking glasses of wine and munching Rebecca's brownies as we watched DVD's from their vast collection in the evenings. It was also refreshing to find a place which takes care of the environment. The fact that it is slightly outside of town adds to the overall charm of the location, and getting in and out of town is easy. I cannot recommend Casa Verde enough, we're definitely going back.

La Casa Verde is a clean, spacious and friendly spot that has a very cozy feel. Rooms are very comfortable and bathroom is spacious. Breakfast is full of delicious homemade breads, granola, yogurt, juices, brownies (excellent!) teas & coffee. Lunch/dinner food, drinks available for purchase. Unlimited filtered water is very convenient too.

Having travelled for nearly 11.5 months of a 12 month trip my wife and I were looking for our last weeks of the journey to be relaxed and comfortable. We could not have found a more perfect place to settle and enjoy our time then La Casa Verde. Having initially booked for 3 nights we ended up staying 6! The hosts Rebecca & Doug (and not forget the ever helpful John) were helpful from the 1st moment we stepped through the door with suggestions on how best to use our time in the area and most importantly ...relax, which was definitely achieved at the Banos de Cajon (steam baths) just up the road. Having stayed in many hostals through our travels around the world we were struck by the beautiful settings by the river, the home-made food, the clear drive to be sustainable, and the friendly attitude of Rebecca and Doug. We had a fantastic stay, would recommend this hostal for anyone coming to stay in Banos, and we wish Rebecca and Doug all the best success because they have the makings of a brilliant retreat for people.

Fantastic Eco Hostel. Spacious, clean rooms with amazing views. Decent size bathroom with hotwater and proper toilet. Gorgeous breakfast included with fresh, homemade produce. Friendly proprietors who are always willing to help and advise. If you go to Banos then you want to stay here!

Our group loved the La Casa Verde! We ended up staying 2 additional nights. Not only is it economical but clean and beautifully done. The owners have thought of everything and are so incredibly accomadating. The price includes a great breakfast which was complete with fresh fruit & juice, yogurt, breads, and yes real coffee! (amazingly a hard to find in Ecuador). There is a fridge stocked with beer and homemade stews, soups, garlic bread. Also they have focused on green sustainable building! Which is incredible. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a beautiful spot and a great night sleep.(great mattresses) If you get there by bus I recommend taking a taxi to the hotel. once you are there it is easy to catch the bus into town but a little tricky to find the first time.

This is one of the most comfortable hostels I've ever stayed in. It's ultra-clean and has a sunny, open shared space with a kitchen. The owners are helpful, kind and courteous. Plus, Rebecca makes the best breakfast EVER! La Casa Verde is a great value for an exceptional stay, and it's got a sustainable business model, so you can feel good about where your dollars go.

La casa Verde has a wonderful location on the river, very peaceful. The owners are extremely helpful and friendly. I stayed a week and it could have easily turned into a month. And when they say eco they really mean it, which is refreshing!

hands down-- this was my favorite stay in ecuador!! the hospitality, room/bathroom, food, location... are all top quality and unbelievable for the price!! the owners (rebecca & doug) will treat you more like you are a house guest verses a customer! i would recommend this place to everyone!

What can I say about the La Casa Verde that isn´t positive. From the start we were welcomed as family, even at 10 o´clock at night. The hostel is located in a beautiful part of Baños over looking the river. Rebecca makes sure that you are taken care of from the start! Ask for her breakfast, which she makes fresh and hot every which is a great way to start the day. For an ecotravel, this hostel can´t be missed! Highly recommend!

Your eco-friendly haven in beautiful and tranquil baños. Set in a peaceful and scenic valley on the Rio Pastaza, La Casa Verde is surrounded by a magnitude of flora and fauna, including hummingbirds and fire flies, complete with spectacular views of the Llanganates and Sangay National Parks. We offer the perfect place to rest, relax and enjoy Baños, in the safe area of town, in a sustainable and comfortable environment.
