It was Hitchcock who said that after first 'bang' emotions can only grow in a movie. So is in Sunrock Hostel. Just after we accepted initial prices, maybe not very promising but which seemed to be fair for three days, or at least at level at which one can expect proper service, so just after we've checked in in 'Honeymoon apartment' the drama began. Weronika decided to take a shower which seems to be not very unusual in most European countries. Not in Hitchrock Hostel, where the shower equals to adventure. After switching the boiler on (switched off on default) my girlfriend was electrocuted. I've switched off the boiler at once and checked the boiler myself. After switching in on you can expect commercial voltage on switchbox, on boiler, on every tap in the bathing room, on the mentioned shower, but also on a kitchen deck, freezer and over small metal parts in room. Delightful adventure started with 'bang'. By the way, kitchen is the masterpiece of carpentery. You cannot find single doors to fit exactly in the frame. What amazied me yet even more, in whole kitchen you cannot find a single pot, plate or a glass. They can lend you one, upon request, but not for long – we tried to borrow one pot for tea and had to give it back the next day. This is – I guess – the reason for keeping in room freezer without a handy. You simply don't need to open the freezer when you've noting to put in. On the contrary the wardrobe – as it soon occured – should stay open all the time. It stinks like death of Mr Crook from Dickens' novel. On the third night, when we finally made up our minds and decided that sun, sand and sea counts still more than electrical shocks, kitchen dummy and stinking wardrobe, the adventure occured to be – again – yet more exciting. Unbelieveble, isn't it? Our bed collapsed while we're asleep. Weronika is rather tiny, I'm not massive build as well, but the bed was as fragile as student dinners in Hitchrock Hostel. It took few minutes to bring the bed to the state in which it was 'sleepable' again. At that time we've noticed some heavy and continous steps upon the ceiling. We soon have find out, that these were other guests on the terrace upon us enjoing beer 'mythos' and a mediterrain night. After all, sun+sand+sea > inconveniences. So we decided to stay 4 more nights. Room service was so gentle, that they didn't disturb us at all, they even didn't enter our room when we were away. Soon we've noticed that we're short with toilet paper, that there is no broom&brush clean that floor. TV-set was dead as on the first day, but placed in the corner didn't take space and time. Efforts made to give it life were misplaced. That is why we could concentrate on contemplating definite masterpieces efforts hanging on the wall. I mean three paintings varying from purpure to ochra: depicting candle, violine, wild and perhaps horny Indian woman at the moon and mother with child both lacking fair proportions. This last one fell down on the night fifth due to heavy steps from above. There, one can say, the strict rules of Hitchcock's movie are endangered - adventure becomes dull and not very itching. There is nothing a man would not stand in very late dinners, dirt, electrical shocks, small inconveniences. I can agree with a small 'but'. 'But' just before the night seventh, it came to payment. We've agreed for first three days to pay daily 48 Euro for 'Honeymoon apartment'. Could you expect that for other four days you'd be charged 90 per day? We didn't expect it either. But it happened. You can decide by yourself whether it's anything you can call fair price for a standard double, having in mind all these magical add-ons. I've already decided. Some of you, through, my well-tempered readers, wouldn't be astonished that finally I've lost my temper and paid 60 Euro per day which I find still much more that reasonable avarage for the offered standard. Yet, surprisingly, the rules of Hitchcock movie were saved – emotions in the end of adventure were much higher than in the beginning and I truly can say that they've ruined my holiday feelings. To give the full local colour, it's worth mentioning that each meal was attended by three fantom cats, so skinny, that one could see the Paxos Island through them.

Arrived at Corfu ferry port, looking for a decent hostel. Luckily, Spiros from Sunrock was there and gave us a lift in the minibus. We had read about Sunrock in Lonely planet and were so pleased that we didnt have to find our own way there. The views of the sea at Sunrock were fantastic and the beach was accessed down some steps and a short path. We were hungry when we arrived and were pleased to find out that not only did the 18 euro per night cost include a good breakfast, but also a good evening feed up, which we found most welcome. We spent the first, and following evenings in the bar and playing drinking games on the sundeck. We made some great new friends in both the other backpackers we met and the family (Spiros & Madelena). Next time we are in Italy, we will definately, hop across on the ferry to Corfu and Sunrock.

My time at Sunrock was awesome! If I hadn't already booked my flight home before Christmas I would have been asking for a job there. Everyone was super friendly - it was just like one big family which anyone would fit right into. There was always music playing, and always someone cool around to chat to or do something with. I was very impressed with the low prices, the transport to and from the port, the location right on the beach, and the fact that breakfast ran until 1pm. It's no 5 star hotel but the facilities were more than adequate - it's the best hostel type accommodation I've ever stayed in. I would strongly recommend the hostel to anyone looking for a fantastically fun holiday on the beach, and would likewise recommend hiring a scooter for a day and checking out the rest of the island. And if that's not enough to encourage you to come, let me just mention the two hot shot guys who who do the reservations and bar work!!!

After Istanbul and Athens, we were looking for some fun beach time. We found it at Sunrock. We stayed for 1 week and found it hard to go home. I want to thank Mada for the wonderful food and hospitality - you truly made our stay! We had a great time in the bar with Paul & George and the beach was just what we were looking for...sun (oh yes!) sand and clean water. We'll be back....for sure! for sure!

I've been here for 2 months now and what a ball I've had. I was a guest for three and half weeks, which was meant to be a week. The beaches, the sunset and entertainment that they provide are the best I've ever encountered in Greece. I booked into the Pink Palace for a week, but after meeting the owner, Spyros, at the dock, the value and the place sounded so inviting that I had to go. Once I arrived at the hostel, I met Madalana and the children and I knew I came to the right place. The laid back atmosphere that didn't have the typical touristy feel made you feel you are actually in a typical Greek family hostel. All the meals are prepared by the family and you sit and eat with them. Apart from too much good food, I reccommend this hostel to travelers from all walks of life and all ages.

After reading the reviews on Sunrock resort, I really thought it was "heaven on earth", but it was definitely not!

We had booked a double room with sea-view and, when we arrived, we had to walk up the mountain with our heavy luggage to reach a room with olive-tree-view; the "shortcut" to the room that Magdalene kindly showed us was as long as the direct route, just a little more dangerous.

Talking about the room, it was quite dirty when we arrived and the only thing we had at our disposal to clean it was an old, dirty broom, not very useful to clean the bathroom after a shower, so we had to buy a rag at the nearest mini-market. Moreover, almost all the light bulbs were broken and the only one that worked was so weak that at 7 pm you could hardly read! Oh, and the bathroom door didn't close.

And what about the water? as we lived up a hill, there was a pump that took water to our room; but this pump didn't really work and the result was that the water stopped about 3-4 times (for 10-20 seconds) during every 10-minutes shower...when we were lucky. It also happened 2 times (in out 7-days stay) that electricity went down, leaving us without water and light, so that one of us had to get dressed and walk down to the reception to complain about that, until the electricity came back.

Talking about the meals, breakfast was very good and generous, although the tables were often dirty; dinner, instead, was composed by a tiny greek salad (most of the time without greed capsicum and with just one olive) and a main course, which most of the times wasn't really a typical greek dish...like cold overcooked pastina with simmenthal or spaghetti with acid sauce!

Regarding the staff, Magdalene didn't show up a lot...the last day we kept asking her when we had to pay and she kept saying "after dinner", but, after dinner, when we looked for her, the bartender told us she was sleeping!!! As we were leaving at 5 am we sent him down to wake her up and we tried to pay with our credit card (which, looking at the labels on the door, should have been accepted) but she didn't accept them, so we had to collect all the cash we had left and pay; after we gave her all the money in cash, she didn't even try to smile to us!!

As the hostel was very isolated from Corfu's nightlife, the Vrachos bar was the only place to go; fortunately the Vrachos bar-staff (Paul, John and Alex) was very nice, friendly and available to us and almost every night we played funny games; moreover, the 0,5 l-beer costed just 2 euros!!

Thanks to Paul, John and Alex we really had fun at Sunrock but I wouldn't really recommend this place.

The reason? those that stay here no why!...the food, the staff, the owners, the BEACH and the SUNSETS were all fabulous. Each night was different and had a lot of fun at the bar. I've just finished my backpack tour of Greece and stayed at Sunrock as a last stop on my tour. I was tired when i arrived and the warm atmosphere i found at the hostel was very welcoming. In fact, so welcoming that i stayed for an extra 5 days on top of my 2 days that i had booked for. During the day, the place was buzzing with a warm atmosphere , yet still very relaxing. At night, the bar was completely the best fun i have had on my holiday and the Karaoke, well, you have to meet George and Paul to know what i mean (hi guys!!) One of the other reviews on here says about kids running around not giving people a chance to relax. Well, i found this place to be one of the most welcoming hostels i stayed in on my trip, the owners and staff were fun, the food was amazing and the kids were cool....(Whats your name? you like scooby doo?) Thanks to EVERYONE at sunrock for a perfect end to my greek experience!
