Review from Coffyn by Coffyn
I stayed in the Amigo hostel for 4 nights (26-30 dec 2006) with a family of 4. The location is perfect, close to the center of Pest and with plenty of eating and party places. Also the building itself is great. Having a basic bathroom for the price of 44 euro per nigh tlooked like a great deal.
However, that is where the posistive part ends.
Comparing it to a youth hostel, it was not clean.
Also the pillows and matrasses were of bad quality.
Lastly, since there is no control by the owner, it was very noisy because of other guests. The first night I personally asked the guests in the dormitory to reduce the noise. Luckily they did it. The 4th night, while sleeping in room 6, again it was party time in the dormitory. This time I could not ask to stop as I could not enter that part of the building. So almost no sleep until the early alarm when off to head back to the airport.
So although I think this hostel could be a great recommendation, it does not (yet) deserve this yet.
Very nice Hostel at a great location. The staff enabled us to book for 14 persons, which was not easy at that moment. Some good points:
++
Location; very central, at nice square, near M1 metro
Not expensive (we paid 14 per night pp)
Clean and nice rooms
--
Only one key per room (imagine a room of 6 persons with just one key; u have to do everything together.... since there's no reception)
beds; my bed was very louzy, others were bit better.
Final judgement: I would come back here most definately.
Location:
Situated at one of the coolest spots in downtown of Budapest, just going down 15 steps the Liszt Ferenc square, a number of fashionable pubs, restaurants and entertainment places at just 1 min. walk are waiting for you to discover them. You can hear the exercising musicians at the famous Liszt Ferenc Music Academy nearby*.
The famous Váci street or the Danube bank are at 5 min. trip by the yellow underground or 10-15 min. by walk. Near by you can find internet café, money exchange, two banks, bank cash slot-machines, fast food restaurants (McDonald’s, Burger King) within a short walk as well. Parking possible nearby. *the hostel is at a very silent place, there you will not hear any music or noise unless you or your mates make some.
About the hostel inside:
Our hostel can be found on the first floor of a typical Pest downtown building in the pedestrian zone at maybe the famous squire of Budapest’s city centre. The hostel has a total of 5 rooms on 100 m² and can accommodate 17 persons in four 2-3 and 4 - bed private rooms, plus a dormitory (6 beds, the dormitory is also used as private room depending on the demand).
All the rooms incl. the dormitory have own bathrooms with toilet, we have also well-equipped small tee-kitchen place, and a small reception site.
The soft, Mediterranean style and design we tried to achieve warms up the hearts of our dear guests.
About the surrounding us facilities:
Amigo Hostel is surrounded by plenty of restaurants, clubs, pubs, cafés, shops. Nearby you can find internet café, money exchange, two banks, bank cash slot-machines, laundry, fast food restaurants (McDonald’s, Burger King) within a short walk as well. Parking possible nearby.
By the nearby underground stop, connecting to the other metros at the Deák tér stop, you can reach simply any main point of the city in max. 25 min. trip.
So: super location, low prices and private rooms with own bathrooms & toilets: What can you look anymore for?
