Sandymount House - Abbeyleix - Reviews & Contact Details

We spent a very enjoyable stay at Sandymead House in Abbeyleix. The property is a Georgian house that has been recently extensively and tastefully restored by the current owners, Avril and Robin Scott. They could not have made us more welcome if they had tried. The bedrooms are mostly en suite. They are beautifully decorated and have new furnishings throughout. As we arrived we were welcomed by their beautiful 4 year old labrador - Buddy. If you get to stay there don't be put off by Buddy's vocal welcome - this is his home too and as soon as you greet him he is a big softy! Abbeyleix is a beautiful town with some excellent shops and restaurants. It also boasts Morrisey's - the second oldest pub in Ireland! You have to sample the atmosphere there to believe it! We enjoyed a simply superb Chinese meal at the 'Brilliant Castle'. The restaurant is upstairs and almost opposite Morriseys. The food was freshly cooked (as opposed to freshly microwaved!) to order and was divine! Avril even drove us in to town and collected us later so that we could have a few drinks. The standard of accommodation at Sandymount House is as good as it gets and when we left we felt as if we had known Avril and Robin for years! Anyone staying with Avril, Robin and Buddy will never forget the wonderful hospitality at this exceptional guest house.
