Abbeywood House - Review from Susan Carroll
Comfort & Atmosphere at the right price in Westport!
What do you look for in a place to stay? Do you find hotels too expensive? B&Bs too claustrophobic and hostels too communal?
Abbeywood gives you the best of all three...
If you can't survive without a phone and a trouser press in your room, then Abbeywood is probably not for you. If however, you're looking for budget prices, a comfortable bed, hot showers, free continental breakfast, freedom to come and go as you please, private or shared rooms, access to cooking facilities and TV/Video, all set in landscaped grounds only a 2 minute walk from the centre of Westport, then you're in the right place.
Abbeywood is a former monastery, still retaining many of its original features such as stained glass windows, polished wood floors and high ceilings. Its situation, set in off the road in its own grounds makes it hard to believe it's so close to the centre of town.
All the rooms have large picture windows with views over Croagh Patrick and the surrounding town. Having only recently opened its doors after renovations, the rooms are freshly painted, the beds are new, complete with certified orthopaedic mattresses and a brand new shower system has been installed.
Calling all Sports and Social Clubs, Kayakers, Surfers, Hillwalkers and groups of friends looking to get away: Abbeywood can be block booked (subject to availability) giving you the freedom to enjoy your weekend in the company of your friends only.
