I'm staying at the Amber Hostel right now with my fourteen year old daughter and I am completely satisfied, so I think the person who wrote the last review just don't have much experience. This place is perfectly good, cleaner than many. The staff has been very friendly and helpful. New bathrooms and showers (at both ends of the corridor) have been kept clean and nice all through our stay here. The kitchens are also clean and we found the bed linen clean and mangled to our satisfaction. And there has been toilet paper available all the time. About the surroundings...yes, I agree with the description, but wonder if the previous reviewer has seen any other east european or Russian suburbs. The public transportation to town is very close-by, frequent and ridiculously inexpensive. I see no reason to pay more for staying overnight while visiting Riga. The only advice I could give is to book a room on the side furthest away from the railroad, if you want to sleep with the windows open.

This hostel is situated in a student residence well outside the town of Riga. When you get off the bus they have a little booth with a couple of young people manning it. Clearly they're putting some energy into attracting customers. The building is set in the midst of fairly desolate surroundings - men sitting in groups drinking, old women, pigeons and cats. Riga tends to change very dramatically once you leave the spiffy refurbished old city. If you want to see what buildings look like when they've had no maintenance done to them in 40 years then look at the buildings surrounding the Amber Hostel. A good introduction, perhaps, to life in the former Soviet Union but not the most uplifting surrounds. If you're going to stay here, bring your own toilet paper. In fact, you'll need to brring your own toilet seat. The mattresses were filthy and no attempt had been made to put the room into any sort of shape for overnight visitors. I've recently stayed in wondeful hostel accomodation in Buenos Aires and Vilnius. A good hostel is a joy - this place is an utter dump and should be avoided at all costs.

The newest hostel in Riga. Thats the Amber Hostel! During the year it works as a student hotel, but soon it will become a friendly and lively summer hostel.
The best price and the best offer among Rigas accommodations. You can choose between various types of rooms, including the dormitories. In the neighborhood are located some bars, pubs and restaurants, so you can eat and drink just within a walking distance from the hostel. Want to visit the city and see something more. Well help you to chose your route.
We are open from 6th July until 28th of August. We hope you will experience an unforgettable stay in Riga. This city is the never-ending party resort. Feel the baltic sense of living. Book your bed in Amber?
