Zulys Backpackers Hostel (Jeugdherbergen)in Panama City is without any doubt one of the best Hostels I´ve stayed in during my 8 month trip through Latin America. It is not one single feature which makes this Hostel special but the whole package you get. For little money you get everything you need from a decent bed to a well equipped kitchen, clean bathrooms and good travel information. And all this in a 24h super safe and central location. But of course the best of all is that you meet good fellow travellers there as a good place like this attracts 99% nice and interesting people (almost nobody from the big country in the north and the small country in the middle East!-experienced travellers know what I´m talking about).

True, it is a good and safe area in Panama City and I also met some very nice travellers there. BUT: not the friendliest staff (not cooperating, not caring about its guests) and also Zuly herself, generous but fu***** studip (sorry), bold and cocky!; we got robbed by a little guy from the staff cleaning up the rooms while we were sleeping. he took 22$ out of my brothers pans and even the change, thats why he even woke up and saw him leaving the room. finally he did not want to admit that it was him and the german owner/manager (whatever) living next door, did not manage to come over to solve this problem...seemed to me that it is all about money, not the service! oh and not enough bathrooms, always busy. so guys, i seriously do not recommend this hostel! there are better options in town. enjoy your stay

I stayed in several Hostels while in Panama City and I must say Zulys Backpackers Hostel is by far best value for your money. The location is perfect, save, right in the middle of everything and for $10 you get loads of information, a decent bed, clean bathrooms, a clean kitchen, a garden and a nice common room where you can meet nice people from around the world (no big groups of the same nationality). I also booked a boat to Cartagena there and the trip with Captain Federico was awesome. Believe it or not, you can actually practice your spanish there, maybe it is because the Management doesn´t consist of English Native speakers- if you know what I mean! Some words to the other Hostels I stayed: Lunas Castle: Expensive and in general very dirty, bathrooms are digusting, Dorms are packed with 12 people and there are hords of americans who are obviously, at the age of 23 still in puberty. Located in Casco Viejo (nice during the day-highly dangerous after 8 PM! Mamallena: Located in the middle of nowhere, no decent supermarket or anything backpackers could need around, at night not the most recommendable area to be. Preferred place of 99% of israelien Backpackers in town!

Bambu Hostel in David Panama is fun, its clean and cheap and best yet it has a new swimming pool and a huge garden to hang out in, you need that pool in David, Beds are $10 a nite for dorms more for privates. It is secure and has a nice evening meal plan for about 5-6 USD..i met alot of other backpackers there who were looking for a nice hostel and had a bad experience at other hostels in david..there are not a ton of rules here and that is what i liked best. This is definitly the best option in Panama City. The place is in a very safe neighbourhood close to everything you may need. The staff is friendly and very helpful and you have the feeling that they really care about you. They have loads of information what to do in Panama. In case you want to go by boat from Panama to Colombia ask at Zulys as they have best connections to different reliable captains.

WOW what can I say! I stayed here when they where first gettin started up and still, hands down, Zulys was the best budget hostle in the city. I'll be back there for sure!

This new Backpacker is located right in the heart of Panama City, just 150 mts from famous Via Vennetto, between Hotel Continental and Hotel Mariott, in the El Cangrejo/Banking district.
