On a mission to help change the way the world looks at Manila, a family of lifelong travelers opened the Red Carabao in June 2009 as Manila’s newest, alternative, and most informative hostel. Read on to see what we mean. Too often, even the bravest and most experienced travelers leave Manila out of breath, sweaty and even disappointed. Although we cannot change the way Manila looks overnight, by sharing with you Manila's history & hidden beauty, we hope our guests will leave us with a little more appreciation for this centuries-old & truly one of a kind city. Our smiling staff have traveled the wide expanse of the Philippines Islands (Boracay, Palawan, Laoag, Baguio- you name it), but they continue to explore Manila to this day, digging up cultural history, following up on current events, and staying "in the know" of Manila’s social scene. We have invested a whole lot of time & effort in unearthing some of Manila’s buried history and worthwhile sites- places & things you won’t find in your Lonely Planet. We hope that by making them accessible, you’ll be spending less time researching and more out and about the city. LOCATION. Away from all the noise, but within easy & short reach of everything Manila has to offer, Red Carabao is located by the gate of the Chinese Cemetery in Santa Cruz district of Manila, just north of Malate. By staying with us, you not only have access to the typical sites (Rizal Park, Intramuros, Manila Bay) but also downtown Manila (churches), Chinatown, Asia's oldest university (which has its own museum), and Timog/Morato Avenue in Metro Manila's most vibrant nightlife scene. Plus, we're situated in a quiet, safe, lighted, and peaceful neighborhood where our guests can mingle with locals & experience Filipino community life. All in all, Red Carabao goes above and beyond clean beds, hot showers, internet access, cable TV, and the much-needed A/C; we wish to instill in you even the slightest appreciation for our metropolis in the hope that you could help spread the word to those around the world. We’ll proudly show and tell you some of Manila’s great heights, but also explain its downfalls.
