Sleepy Sam's Bed & Breakfast - Review from coolie

***
Stayed here a night, and decided to keep moving on. Location is actually not very good. It's wedged a fair distance from Little India (not really walking distance), and several bus stops from Chinatown, or Orchard. Quite a walk to either the MRT or bus lines, and the nearby food is pretty lean on the choices. Also, there's a 5:30am Muslim loud speaker prayer that goes for at least 15 minutes. It's really a crappy way to be woken up. Pros: The beds and pillows are great. Decently clean...but hard to tell with the dim lighting. Everyone is supposed to keep their shoes off and downstairs, but seriously...there's a lot of funk with so many travellers without shoes on. Free internet in the cafe lobby. Reasonably friendly staff. Cons: Location, Early Morning Wake Up call from the LoudSpeaker at the Temple right outside, No windows in the dormitory area which makes it look like Nighttime ALL THE TIME, A/C is not very good - rely on ceiling fans which haven't been dusted in I don't know how long...they actually had large dust ball flying off the fans. Personal observation: Overall, ambience. I think they're trying to go for a laid back euro-cafe thing.... But I'm not feeling it. Bed and Breakfast is a bad description. It's a basic place to lay your head down and get some rest. The security is just so-so, and if you're thinking of getting a private room, it's actually just a partition wall. Stick with the dormitory section, and don't trust leaving any valuables behind. This place is not for everyone.

Never stayed there as I am a local from Singapore and Muslim as well. Just like how I am tolerant of the practices in other religions, I wished that others would be of mine. Not that I am enraged, but I would be delighted if a tourist who visits my country at least understands that we do collective praying in the morning, hence the loud speaker and that the place that we pray in isn't a temple but a mosque. Although it is just a matter of terminology, it creates a whole new meaning altogether. Thanks for coming to Singapore and hope you enjoyed ur stay here.
