Avoid anything connected with Sunny (owner of Ideal Pension and Big Backpacker cruises) at all costs. Reservations mean nothing, he won't deliver anything he promises, and he'll rip you off for the pleasure. We'd confirmed our booking at least twice each in the week leading up. On arrival, all 17 beds had been given away. No apologies. This turned out to be a blessing, since the place was filthy and falling apart. Luckily it was easy enough to find better value places anywhere in Fethiye with no bookings. Particularly disappointing as we'd booked two boats through them for a week-long cruise, which turned out to be worse than the pension.

I utterly agree! They must have seen the 'Lonely Planet' authors coming. The owners of this place are conmen who are taking money under false pretences. Do not believe a word about their apparent 'offers'. From the rates advertised, breakfasts to length-of-stay offers (see below) - they all are a scam. Do yourself and fellow backpackers a favour and avoid this place like the plague. I seriously doubt whether any positive review of this place is from a 'real' backpacker - don't trust them. Phoney 'benefits' accordıng to Hostel Literature: 1) 7.20 euros offer - where is this available? - they charged me 12 euros and told me that these were the fixed rates for Fethiye 2) Stay offers - not available (they say because they are only on offer during the peak season - even though they are currently charging more than peak season prices - does there washing machine only work during peak season??) 3) Breakfasts - forget the tasty offerings purported in their literature - they 'don't have a cook' and all is available is a (comparitively) shocking excuse for a Turkish Breakfast.

My wife and I stayed there in late Sept 2001 and ended up woking for the owners for two weeks and loved the experience. Yes the owner has a bit of a shady past but he is fairly open about this and he is a typical Turkish man when it comes to single females. Any woman travelling through Turkey would see nothing different with any Turkish man, its just the way are. The rooms were great value for money (the costs haven't changed much) and the view is just spectacular. Watching the cruise ships come and go just in front of you is awesome. The proximity to the markets, bars and cafes makes it a perfect place to stay. All tours can be organised from the Pension but always be warry of the "I have a friend who........", shop around for prices, they vary a bit. Overall, if you recognise you are in a different country with a different culture you should find your stay very good, if you go there expecting a Five Star experience, you should have gone to the south of France!

I've stayed there twice and I think its one of the better places I've stayed in. The rooms are pretty small but they're very clean and they all have their own bathroom so the most you'll ever share with is one or two others in your room and if you're travelling by yourself they'll always match you with someone appropriate. Ask if you can have a room at the back because they're quieter and some of them have a little balcony. The location is excellent, its about a 5 minute walk around the corner from the main market area and the area where all the tourist boats leave from. Its an elevated building so if you go up to the breakfast rooms you'll have the best views in the whole of Fethiye. The rates are good and include breakfast but dont accept the first rate they give you, you can negotiate with them but dont be unrealistic because its just rude. There's plenty of places to stay in Fethiye and plenty of travellers to go around so they're not desperate but its not a rip off either. The breakfasts are fantastic!!!! They're huge so you almost dont have to eat for the rest of they day!!! Its a really social place. Everyone talks to each other during breakfast and they have dinner at night and there's heaps of seating and cushions and you can always get heaps of information from other travellers. They have a tour booking office downstairs which will arrange tours and stuff for you and call taxis and that but you can do it all by yourself if you feel like bargaining with the guys down at the boats or around at the buses. I dont know what problems the other guy had with the owner but he treated me well, the old guy there seems a bit grumpy but its only because his english isnt so good, he's not really grumpy. You will get a lot further with the owner if you're prepared to negotiate with him a bit but be reasonable otherwise he will understandably get annoyed. Also the guy's son is really nice if a bit shy and will carry your bags for you. For girls.... this is a really safe, clean and comfortable place to stay, I love it.

The guy who owns it is a criminal and I've heard many bad stories about this place. Stay clear!
