Good bargain by Shah
I stayed at this hostel for 1 nite on August 30th with 5 other friends. For a hostel...it was good. Instead of breakfast, we opt for the `sahur' the early morning breakfast for muslim during the Ramadhan. I would certaintly stay here again and also would recomend it to other friends visiting Jakarta. Gubeng train station is very near...we walk to the hostel from the station.
LOCATION: very convenient. located in the city center. there's a mall just across the street with a few fastfood restaurants (Mcdonald's, KFC, A&W etc.) and Mcdonald is 24 hrs!!!! easy to get around.
ROOM: very big for a hostel. it's just opened so everything is so new. i stayed in a private twin room. it's tidy and clean. the air-con is new! there's even a private shower room. no hot water though but in surabaya u don't really need it! also provide towels - great for backpacker.
SERVICE: excellent service. you feel so much welcomed all the time. the staffs speak very good english and are extremely friendly and caring. They operate a travel agency at the same time (in the same building) so they gave us lots of useful information about travel. great resource. by the way the breakfast (i tried both fried rice and fried noodle) was yummy!
NOT SO GOOD: it might not be your type if you are looking for a hostel where it's easy to meet other backpacker and to spend your day hanging around at the common area. the common area is quite small and at this moment still lacks its own character. but i believe later on (it opened in 5 May only) when the staffs start hanging up world map on the wall, putting more travel guides, games, and any sort of decoration, the whole hostel will be a much more fun place to stay in addition to the excellence in comfort, service and location.
This is the new and the only Backpacker hotel in town. Operated by people who know tourism in the city and love traveling. Will be opened in May 5 2009, but room booking can start now. The price start from 9 USD. Located in the city central, very near to everything. 24 hours receptionist and plus breakfast.
