CROYDON RULES! by glenn69182
Personally i think there should be alot more places like this.. you can go to one of the many "backpacker hostels" in amsterdam but youl get ripped off and have to sleep in a room with 20 strangers. atleast with hotel croydon you get your own room with shower + toilet. it might be dirty as hell and have extreme decor issues but its cheap. Also great exercise when climbing to your room, colourful words of wisdom from many a guest on the walls. highly recommended ;)

....Joke
This hotel seemed like a good place to stay at the time, but the day before we set off i searched for maps to this hotel and found out about the horror reviews. THEYRE ALL TRUE!
Luckily these kinda prepared us for what was to come. Our room (#2) was situated up two of the most steepest flights of stairs you will ever come across. Inside it smelt horribly of cigerettes and the floors covered in an array of stains. the bathroom looked as though it had never been cleaned and the smell coming from it reinforced our suspicions. The beds were filthy and the top blanket made from wool had turned crusty. We slept fully clothed in sleeping bags on top of the bed with a towel on the pillow. above the beds are shelves covered in grafitti, its not bad grafitti, just the tales of how shit the hotel really is, one of them stating "GET OUT NOW!". we could hear mice through the walls continuously and were appauled when we found them inside the room, crawling over the spare bed and along the window sil.
we were suspicious when we left our room so we decided to place a chair behind our door with objects arranged so we would know if they got moved. we came back later that evening to find the chair in a completley different location. DO NOT KEEP VALUABLES IN THE ROOM.
on the last day of our stay we discovered why our bathroom stank so badly. when the floor above us flushed their toilet the pipes coming from it, which were exposed from our roof, would leak into our bathroom. FILTHY.
You are costantly harrassed by drug dealers that hang out the front at night, and if you decide to stay in, it will be impossible to sleep because of church bells that ring all through the night, and the constant abuses from the street below.
I honestly dont know how this hotel is able to remain open, let alone achieve a star rating, it should be in the negatives.
haha me and my pals stayed here last year it is definately a shit tip but we made the most of it, we where on the very top floor with crackshack wrote on the back of the door and an extremely creepy picture, and i also think that jon guy who did the good review on croydon hotel may well be one of the employees there lol
all of these guys are lying about it man it was the best hotel ever i understand wat u guys are saying but dont expect much from a 3 star hotel but in a 3 sta hotel way i think its the best hotel ever man it might have its bad sides but it has millions of good sides trust me+its amsterdam what do you want to expect all the hotels are like that lols
our room was at the top of loads of very steep and unsafe stairs.the room carpet was black.the toilet was black.the pillow on my bed was soaked in urine.it smelt badly.the electrics in the room were dangerous;twe did not feel safe.no fire exits and bars on the windows.we are still itching now.
I don’t know how the Hotel Croydon can possibly call itself a ‘hotel’ without being sued for misrepresentation – my friends and I left within 45 minutes of walking into our room as it was far below any acceptable level of cleanliness and could not possibly meet health and safety regulations. The walls of the room and pictures on the walls were covered in graffiti, the sheets had cigarette burns in them, the ‘ensuite’ bathroom was dirty and smelt revolting, the carpets were covered in unidentifiable stains, and to top it all off a previous visitor had urinated in a corner of the room (when we complained about all this the proprietor told us that because we are Australian our standards of cleanliness are too high!!!).
In addition to the putrid filth of our room, the room was located at the top of rickety stairs and a number of the pipes and electrical cables in the room were exposed. The sink regularly let out loud gurgling noises.
Despite the fact it was late at night and we were tired after a long journey, we stayed in our room just long enough to ring and book another hotel room and promptly left. When we requested our money back we were told to return the next day. We received a partial refund only when we threatened to go to the police.
Appalling.
This place was disgusting. The room walls were covered in graffiti, it smelt, the carpet was stained and there was urine on the bedroom wall. We checked straight back out and stayed somewhere else.
We are located just 3 minutes walk from the Central Station and are right at down town Amsterdam. We are sorrounded with coffee;bars, canals and shopping centers. The famous dam square the red light distrcts and the flower markets are just minutes away from us.We are a budget hotel and have four floors with t.v in all the rooms and 24/7 we are open.We believe in full hospitality and comfort to our guest.
