Not what you expected by Dopsey
Accommodation
We had all realised by the third day of our stay that Tranquility Residence is, in fact, a busy and thriving room by the hour hotel. The gates clanked constantly throughout the night as ‘clients’ came and went. This caused disturbed sleep for many of us. We were uncomfortable with the knowledge that we were staying in a rent by the hour as we had three children in our party and this behaviour was very inappropriate.
Rooms
Virtually none of the showers in our rooms was functional. All the rooms had at least one problem, generally there was no cleaning regime, rooms without bins, poor quality mattresses, no clean towels or bedding, no toilet seats, insufficient light bulbs, curtains missing from shower rooms, broken furniture, some guests had to wait days to receive a blanket, windows which did not shut, difficulty procuring toilet tissue, etc.
Health and Safety
Two of our party cut their feet in the pool on a severely cracked and razor sharp tile. Steve had to have his toe dressed as it bled profusely. And yet still the tile was not repaired to avoid this happening to any other guests. This could have potentially ruined someone’s annual holiday.
Whilst Allatantu were absolutely fantastic, as people, friends, teachers and performers, we are very surprised that your brochure states:
“The school offers a dynamic and colourful Tribal Odyssey course …….. You embark on a colourful vibrant odyssey through the diverse tribal groups of The Gambia, such as the Jolas, Mandinka, Fula etc.
This is far from the truth! Neither did we visit the places you say we will, e.g. James Island. We actually had to decide ourselves where we should go, and ask Lamin and Conteh to take us.
Security Staff
It was observed that one of the security guards had a distasteful habit of behaving in an unacceptable manner towards the young girls in our party.
The security guards did not protect us from visitors to the hotel who were allowed into the private internal area by the swimming pool. One ‘visitor’ constantly tried to force us into buying him drinks, and this was well known by the staff who openly described him as a bumster.
probably the best small hotel in the Gambia. small family hotel consisting of 10 standard ensuite rooms, self catering bungalow, deluxe bungalows, restaurant, night club, shops
