MANU NATIONAL PARK
MANU BACKPACKERS - CLOUD FOREST
Day 1st – Monday: Leave from in local bus at 7.30 am, approximately 4hrs later we arrive to Acjanaco located 3,500 meters above sea level and entrance point to the Manu National Park, we continue with the bus down hill passing from the Andean Grassland or Paramo until reach this afternoon San Pedro in the heart of the Cloud Forest (1400 meters), where we camp. This afternoon we walk trying to spot some of the many birds species endemic of the cloud forest.
Day 2nd – Tuesday: We awake this morning with the first light to appreciate (better with the help of a binocular) the beginning of the activity of tropical birds, including the famous Cock of the Rock (Peru's national bird). We come back to our camp to eat a good breakfast, and be ready for the next destination; we walk for around 6 hours passing to the highland Forest, overnight in tents in Asuncion (800 meters). Optional night walk into the forest.
Day 3rd Wednesday: This day we walk around 1 hour to Patria town, here we take a public transportation to Pilcopata towns, after a short stop in Pilcopata, we continue for other 3 hours hike through a beautiful road until reach the Savaluyoc River, this river has pure and crystalline waters, it is the perfect place for a refreshing bath and some rest. Later we walk the same road another 3 hours back to Pilcopata. Note: an optional 3 hours river rafting trough the Savaluyoc river that joins the Quero river and the Kosñipata river. Extra cost for the rafting class III: US$ 25 per person. This day, the bus leave from Pilcopata town at 19:00 HRS and arrive to Cusco early Thursday around 6:00 HRS. End of our services.
