City Overview
South of Adelaide, Kangaroo Island is the third largest island off the coast of Australia. It's a very popular international tourist destination for those looking for extensive unspoilt wilderness areas and lots of Australian native animals. Its coastline is superb, and you can walk for kilometres on beaches where yours are the only footprints. It's NOT the place for visitors looking for the fast life, lots of shops and noisy entertainment. The nightlife consists of Kangaroos, koalas and possums - sometimes lots of them. For those looking for natural beauty in a peaceful setting, Kangaroo Island could be the place for you.
It's BIG, with no public transport. To get around you need your own vehicle, to hire a car or to go on bus tours. Accommodation is plentiful with a variety of backpacker hostels, hotels, guest houses and bed-and-breakfasts. Kangaroo Island is well served with a number of daily plane flights from Adelaide, or you can take the twice daily ferry.
If you want to improve your English there is even a Farmstay where you can live in and study English while learning a variety of other useful skills and enjoying helping on the farm.
