City Overview
Lijiang, the capital of the Naxi kingdom suffered a devastating earthquake in 1996 but the government of China has invested heavily in the rebuilding with the emphasis on tourism. Nestling in green fields in the southeast of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is Lijiang with ancient lanes, weeping willows, clear streams and old stone bridges. The stunning scenery, snow capped mountains, deep gorges and rivers makes this area a hikers paradise. Home of the rugged mountain people of various ethnic groups; Lijiang was settled by Tibetan nomads more than 800 years ago.
