City Overview
Baracoa is the oldest city in Cuba and because of its location, with its back to the mountains and its face to the sea, it was isolated from the rest of Cuba for centuries. This isolation has resulted in its magnetic charm and gentle old-world atmosphere. It's streets, with their one storey houses with red tile roofs and lush vegetation, are beautifully picturesque and in the late afternoon light are perfect for photographers.
Backpackers are spreading the word that the town’s combination of friendly people, lovely scenery and distinctive cuisine make it a great place to spend some time.
Daily Budget
With budget meals and lodgings coming in at US$3-5 and 15-25 respectively, it is not impossible to come out on US$35-50 a day. For US$ 50-70 backpackers can stay at halfway decent hotels and eat out at a few restaurants and even visit a club or two.
