City Overview
Havana is a city past its prime, but hanging in there with cheerful determination and a nightlife that grabs you and drags you into a lively frenzy of clubs, pubs, and bars. The bars are fine, but meant to appeal to European tourists.  Ask a local taxi driver to take you out of the Vieja and you can find bars as fun as any European and American.

For the more sober and serious backpacking student, if there is such an animal, the Spanish colonial architecture will enthrall. However, much of the architecture is in need of repair and and restoration. If your really interested stay out of the Vieja (old Havana) and venture more into the Central City.

Daily Budget

Cheap meals come at about US$5-10 and a room in a private home roughly US$15-25, so, although Cuba is not top of the list of cheap countries to visit it is possible to make it on about US$35 a day. When you get a chance trade in your Euros for Cuban Nationals and stay off the CUCs. You will do much better living and purchasing like ordinary Cubanos.
