Country Overview
This is a country that offers something for everyone. It has mountains to climb and spas to relax in, fast paced modern cities and quiet little villages lost in time to castles and architecture of Gothic, renaissance, and baroque style. Festivals adorn the calendar and nearly every day belongs to one or another saint. From commemorating the musical genius of Mozart to the Paleni Carodejnic, once the unhappy 'Burning of the Witches' and now a time of gigantic bonfires, the Czech Republic will have something of interest going at any given time.

Daily Budget
Accommodation in Prague matches most Western European countries and can be expensive, as are most of the biggest tourist centres and Bohemian spas. But elsewhere, if you are prepared to camp or stay in cheap hostels, self cater, or grab some pub grub; you could scrape by on the smell of an oil rag and US$16 a day. If, however, you want something a little more righteous, then look at spending US$120, for a room in a private home or one of the better hostels, using public transport and eating at a slightly superior restaurant. Remember in the off-season many of the bottom-feeders' hotels drop their prices by a third or more.

When to Go!
May, June and September are the best time to visit, with April and October being somewhat colder, and therefore somewhat cheaper. Backpackers will find students packing out the hostels in July/August. Castles, museums and other paying attractions generally close in October to April.
