City Overview
Quito is located at the foot of the active volcano Pichincha, at an altitude of 2850 meters. The city lies only 13 kilometers south of the equator and has a mild climate.

UNESCO has declared the old city (El Centro Historico) to the south, a World Cultural Heritage Site, with many colonial buildings and a huge market. The new center is up north (La Mariscals) where you will find most hotels, restaurants and nightlife.

Daily Budget
You can usually get away with spending between US$2 – US$15 on accommodation and for meals between US$1 – US$9 per day. Quito is cheap by western standards, so if you want a bit more comfort, you could spend a bit more and get into a B&B for between US$15 – 70 per day.
