City Overview
Welcome to the friendliest and one of the most economical countries in South America; Ecuador. A four-hour bus ride from Quito, that will not dent the pocket at US $3.50, takes you to the city of Banos. Surrounded by a majestic and still active volcano, beautiful waterfalls and famous hotsprings.

Banos is the perfect place for the outdoor enthusiast and the exercise nut alike. During the week there is plenty of peace and quiet in Banos, but come the weekend, the city erupts with carnival-like festivals. In October there is the festival of the Virgin Of The Holly Waters and in December Banos celebrates its anniversary. Partake in the singing, dancing, parades, fireworks and most importantly lots of drinking.

Daily Budget
Ecuador in general is perfect for a backpackers' tight budget. Buses are cheap and normaly very comfortable, as long as you can handle the blaring panpipe music. Banos is no different, offering budget accommodation in the range of US $2-15 as well as cheap meals at an average cost of US $2-4 for a main meal. Expect to get by on as little as US $14 per day, add a dollar here or there, for attractions and you have a fabulous holiday!
