Country Overview
This land where the sun shines in the middle of the night is a paradise for sailing, fishing and exploring, with great tracts of forests and lakes in its unspoilt interior. During the long winter months skiing, and skating frozen lakes, then warming up in a sauna, and relaxing with a hot toddy is the order of the day.

Daily Budget
Once considered the most expensive country in the world, Finland is now more tourist-friendly and the struggling backpacker can even get by on $25 a day, if he swears off alcohol and other such luxuries, but for $50 a day he can enjoy a more comfortable vacation without going overboard.

When to Go!
Depending on how you view ice, snow and long never-ending nights Finland is a great place in winter, or if you prefer a sun that is reluctant to set and hangs around for as long as possible then possibly summer would be the best time for you and other sporting enthusiasts to visit. On Midsummer's Day Finns celebrate enthusiastically and drunkenly on the longest day of the year, when bonfires are lit and revelry reaches climactic proportions. Also held over the Midsummer weekend is the long running rock festival Ruisrock held in Turku in July.
