City Overview
It has been around a long time and seen much and as a result this ancient city has a lot to offer apart from its world famous archaeological sites and crumbling ruins of a long gone empire.
With pedestrian only streets and outdoor cafes, houses and tiered apartments hung with brilliant geraniums, and colourful rowdy markets for daytime exploring, Athens is much more than a 'museum' town.
Daily Budget
To scrape by on US$48 a backpacker would have to stay as far as possible from bars, stay in youth hostels, or camp, but if you prefer to take ferries instead of trying to swim to your destination, eat out regularly, instead of waiting to grab left-overs from departing guests, and really check out the sights instead of just taking long distance snaps of them, then bank on spending at least US98 per day.
