With all that this Central American country offers in Mayan ruins, volcanoes, and magnificent natural wonders, visitors coming flocking to its land even though it is going through political turmoil and high crime. Since the signing of peace treaties Guatemala has become even more attractive and tourists are beginning to venture deeper into the indigenous areas.

Daily Budget
With really cheap camping fees, and fruit lying around for the taking, this has gotta be one of the best places for backpackers on the bones of their bums, and a daily budget of US$25 a day should more than cover their costs

When to Go!
From November to May the weather is at its best, as the thousands of tourists flocking to the country have found, making it also the busiest time of the year. So, if you want to watch your funds and save on accommodation, rather plan your visit for the rainy season, when things calm down a bit. Over Easter, Semana Santa (Holy Week), the highlight of the year’s festivals, is a good time to visit when the processions and festivities are celebrated throughout the country. Rabin Ajau, a traditional Mayan festival is held in July or August, and Independence Day is celebrated nationwide on September 15.
