Country Overview
This amazing country is one of the most exciting destinations on the map and has such an incredible range of landscapes that it is fast becoming one of the most visited European destinations. Its natural features include active volcanoes and immense lava deserts, hot springs, and geysers, as well as magnificent frozen glaciers.

Daily Budget
It has to be said, Iceland is not really a cheap place, (Yeah right, like the Pope is not really protestant.) This country is second only to Japan, which is the most expensive place on the planet. However, don’t despair, there are ways and means of tackling the problem. Chow down at snack bars, bunk down in hostels, and travel on bus passes, and you should be able to make it on about US$50-60 per day.

When to Go!
From the end of August through to the following spring, tourism and attendant facilities come to a halt. So, remember this when you plan your trip. In June, Independence Day brings a festival air to the country with colourful parades and music and dancing in the streets, and general high spirits. Sjomannadagurinn, a commemoration of seafarers, in the first week of June, sees swimming contests, tug-of-war contests, and dramatic staged sea rescues. On Midsummer’s Night, 24 June, people take to rolling naked in the dew, believing it will cure them of certain ailments. August brings the Pjodhatio Vestmannaeyjar, an event of huge bonfires, camping, dancing and generally getting completely, totally, ripped. (Not to be missed)
