The Thriving seaside resort of Kamakura with its ancient temples and shrines and old wooden houses has a population of 175000. A delightful hamlet with a fascinating history is set in a wooded area with the sea on one side. Here you can get your fill of Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines, most of them pretty ancient.
