Country Overview
Land of the bible and Lawrence of Arabia, Jordan is an ancient country overflowing with history and romance. It is sad that the Middle East is in such turmoil and that it is as popular as a pork chop in a synagogue to tourists, because generally Jordan is a peaceful place with friendly, hospitable people. It is also home to one of the world's most impressive sights, the ancient city of the Nabateans, Petra.
Daily Budget
Accommodation in Kenya is not really budget busting if you can get by sharing toilets and showers, and works out in the range of US$4-7 a day, but for a more comfortable experience prepare to fork out about double that. Grab a traditional type meal at a local cafe or Indian restaurant for US$4 and upwards, or throw caution to the winds and blow a daily allowance of US$65 to US$130 on a safari into the wilds of Kenya and really enjoy your African experience.
When to Go!
Winter is bitterly cold, summer baking hot, but spring is reasonable, as is autumn. In April the Amman Dead Sea Ultra Marathon sees competitors undergoing a punishing test of endurance from the heights of Amman 900 metres above sea level, to the lowest point on Earth , the desert of southern Jordan, 400 metres below sea level. In July/August the festival of Jerash celebrates dance, music and theatre in the best preserved Roman city in the world.
