Country Overview
This beautiful country has seen more than its share of trouble, and has had to overcome a long and gruesome war that has left the countryside littered with land mines and decimated its wildlife. Nature has also thrown all it has at the embattled land and pounded Mozambique with cyclones, droughts and floods. For all that it is a beautiful place and is bravely rebuilding what was shattered and looking to the future with hope and determination. If you take the trouble to visit you will find dazzling beaches, colonial architecture, and a number of World Heritage Sites. A word of warning though, not only are there mines lying around, but also high crime and guns, and women should not take chances, but remain in groups.
Daily Budget
Consider a daily budget of around US$50 a day for a comfortable visit to Mozambique, although you can shave a bunch off that total by doing your own self-catering, and riding the trains or buses, and staying away for souvenirs and carvings.
When to Go!
June through to August is the best time to visit Mozambique, when the heat is not so oppressive, and rainfall is at its lowest. However, should your interest lie in game-watching then August and September would be a better option, and for bird-watchers, the rainy season over November and December is the best period. Public Holidays fall on the following dates:
1 January - New Year's Day
3 February - Heroes' Day
7 April - Women's Day
1 May - Workers' Day
25 June - Independence Day
7 September - Victory Day
25 September - Revolution Day
25 December - Christmas Day
