Country Overview
Recovering from the devastation of WWII Poland is re-inventing itself, but nothing could take away from its magnificent countryside with all its diversity and beauty, nor could any one steal or destroy its spirit and culture. In this beautiful old country medieval towns and horse-drawn carts trundling along country lanes co-exist with bright cosmopolitan centres, and the people remain friendly and hospitable while cherishing their rich cultural heritage.

Daily Budget
$30 daily in today's Poland will get you a cheap hotel room, fair to middling restaurant fare, and allow some bus or train travel as well as checking out some museums or other paying attraction, with cheap meals in the region of US$3-5, and inexpensive accommodation about US$8-20

When to Go!
The peak tourist season is in July and August, so if you live for sweaty, swarming throngs of humanity pushing, shoving and jostling for the best spots in the resorts and spa's, then don't hang around for the mid-May to June (spring) and September to mid-October (Autumn), when the weather is warm and the country at its most beautiful, and peace reigns again in the Old Country.

Krakow hosts the annual Music in Old Kraków Festival in August, and in September Wroclaw puts on the Wratislavia Cantans. A somewhat livelier and possibly a whole lot more entertaining is the Dominican Fair held in Gdansk over April/May when the streets are filled with fun and activity from what was once a simple medieval fair.
