City Overview
The tourist office here claims it is Portugal's answer to Rome. It is still Portugal's religious capital with great torchlit processions and weirdly hooded penitents at Easter time.You can't miss the Archbishops Palace, like a great fortress bang slap in the middle of town. It's got lively pedestrian walkways and fairy-tale plazas which make it feel like a miniature Lisbon. There's great cafes, bars, and restaurants so you can't miss this place out on a visit to Portugal.
