The Jacaranda City, is quite lovely during the months of October and November when the streets of Pretoria are adorned in lilac and the ground is covered in a lilac carpet. Founded in 1855 and capital from 1860, the nerve centre of the apartheid era, and now the centre for a new Rainbow Nation. Pretoria has a rich and interesting history and there are many places of historical interest to visit. Midway between Cape Town and the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, Pretoria is not as energetic as Johannesburg but is worth a visit.
