City Overview
One of Switzerland’s cultural centers, Basel, the third largest city in the land, is known for its art and antiquities. Set on the banks of the Rhine, and with the mountains and forests surrounding, a backpacker could get lost in the choice of beautiful places to spend an afternoon exploring. And, if it is raining there are always great museums or some of the finest shops in the country to investigate.
Daily Budget
Switzerland is one of those places that chows your cash, and doesn’t spit out much change. However, take heart, brave wanderer with a pack on your back and hunger in your belly, there is hope for you. There are always hostels, campsites, and self-catering, to cut your costs and US$30 a day should get you by for food and lodging. Going for a private room in a pension, and throwing caution out the door for the privilege of restaurant dining and enjoying the nightlife will cost double or more.
