City Overview
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and was formed about a million years ago by a series of volcanic movements along the Great Rift Way. The last major eruptions occurred about 200 years ago and the Volcano now lies dormant, but not extinct. Almost perfectly shaped, the volcano is truly magnificent, rising sheer from Tanzania's plains. The Rainforest in the National Park is home to elephants, buffalo, leopards and monkeys and on the nearby Great Plains you will see herds of Eland.

Some people come to Tanzania just to climb Kilimanjaro; to see the mountain is an awesome experience, climbing it is mind blowing.

Daily Budget
Climbing the mountain is not a cheap experience, even just spending time in the National Park costs about US$ 22 for a 24-hour stay. If you want to attempt the climb on the cheap it will cost at least $300 but you are more likely to spend nearer $500.However it is a once in a lifetime experience.

If you just want to take a look at the scenery and wildlife, stay in hostels and eat cheaply then a daily budget of US$40-50 is realistic.
