Cheap Shopping
As with most cities you can save money eating in London by going off the high street and go to a coffee shop or Tescos normally around the corner. China town near Covent garden has some great buffets for around 8 pounds. Many big chains also offer credit crunch deals, for example you can get a pizza hut voucher for ten pounds off. Also try the wetherspoon chain pubs for some cheap pub food, you can get a beer and burger for 5 pounds.
If you want to eat good, cheap curry then head down to Brick Lane, near Whitechapel. You will undoubtedly be approached on the street by hawkers for each restaurant but you will pay a 'tablecloth fee'. My personal recommendation would be to look out for "Al-Badar", near Fashion Street. It doesn't look much from the outside (it sells kebabs and chicken/chips at one end) but you can get a meat or veg curry, dhal, rice, naan and a can of drink for £5. A complete bargain.
