With sparkling beaches, a full and varied nightlife, and some of the most excellent shopping in America, Miami is so much more than a sleepy retirement village and offers a great holiday experience for all, including the impoverished backpacker schlepping his rucksack and threadbare wallet across the country.

$50 a day should get basic accommodation in a hostel, or campsite, with the backpacker preparing his own food, but in this bright, bustling place with so much to see and do, it might be better to come with at least $100 a day to enjoy some of the bling.
