City Overview
Vietnam's small and elegant capital city lying in the heart of the northern Red River Delta. It is relatively laid back with the character of a provincial town. . It still retains buildings from the eleventh-century court of its founding father King Ly Thai To, most notably the Temple of Literature, and some of the streets in the Old Quarter still trade in the same speciality goods they dealt in 500 years ago.

Much of the city remains as it was in the 1950's, however since the advent of tourism in 1993, the city has seen an explosion in travellers' cafés, mini-hotels and cybercafés

Daily Budget
Hanoi is relatively inexpensive, you can have a great time and get by very nicely on a daily budget of US$25. If you want to stay in bigger hotels, dine at the more elegant restaurants and sample the best of the nightlife that Hanoi has to offer, rather budget about US$60 per day.
