Taxis & Cabs
Catching a cab in Hanoi can be a tricky and expensive mode of transportation.
There are heaps of taxi operators out there and it can be hard to figure out which is the best option, so I'll give you a couple of tips on how not to get stung, or at least not stung as bad as you might of been!

- The airport pick-up can be booked in advence at booking@noibaitaxi.com and paid atthe end of the journey.

- Catch cabs from major hotels. If you're out and about and find yourself near one of the major hotels in Hanoi, (Sheraton, Sofitel, Melia etc) catch one from here. These operators are all metered and metered properly. Usually very trustworthy operators.

- Other trustworthy ones you will find are Mahlinh and Hanoi Taxis.

- Know the fare. If you have a good idea of much the fare should be or how much you are willing to pay, try to negotiate a set price. Some taxis will do this.

- Travel in groups of 3,4 or 5. Splitting the fare obviously makes it cheaper.

- Have your destination written down. Pronounciation is everything in the Vietnamese language and if you don't say it exactally right, chances are you'll end up somewhere you don't want to be. To be sure you end up where you want, come prepared and show the taxi driver the address.

- When travelling into Hanoi from the airport it is definitly recommended you arrange a pick up from the hotel or hostel you've booked with. Many taxi operators up at the airport are paid comissions from hotels in the city and will take you to that hotel regardless if you don't want to go there or not. They will even tell you that the hotel you've booked with is full, or closed or that this hotel is their new one. Don't trust them. Just get out and get another one.

- Keep your wits about you. Just like anywhere, be careful, keep vigilant and be aware. You'll be right!

I took a private car with A/C all the way from the airport to my hotel in 11 may may str, and it cost me 18 USD. The price is included all fees and tip for driver but we tipped our driver US$2 ! I strongly recommend Noi Bai Taxi . The web site : http://www.noibaitaxi.com
