The favoured destination is Banana Island (Gezira el-Mozh), a lush peninsula 4km upriver, whose owner charges visitors $1.00 each to land. It's enjoyable to wander through the cool, shady groves of mature banana trees, with their vaulting fronds and pendant flowers
