If you are looking for love this is the place to find it. Many flames have materialized out of Du Monde.
And if you want a Vietnamese Coffee, this is also the place to come.
It's also the place to meet if you are looking to get hooked up with Yuxi's hiking group, which is a bunch of mostly Chinese professionals who enjoy wandering around minority villages in the mountains around Yuxi. (Watch out for the villagers Bai Jiu!)
Yuxi is a nice change from noisy, traffic congested Kunming, crawling with foreigners. So if passing through Yuxi, get off the bus and hang-out awhile at this well run friendly cafe. Great atmosphere and fine tunes. Chat with locals still interested in foreigners or just watch world go by in this up and coming restaurant district. Also check-out the bustling old city center market streets (two minute walk) and adjoining park complete with nicely restored temple tower (swallows and all) + old community center.
We teach in a nearby county and go to Cafe Fin Du Monde every time we get to Yuxi. Besides being fun, the cafe is where to go for meeting interesting people full of information on little known "must see" trip ideas throughout Yunnan.
Truly a rare find -- great coffees, great pizzas, great Chinese "one-plate/bowl" meals all at an extremely affordable price. AND, the "facility" is spanking clean. Not easy to come by in China!
I was there in Sept. 2004 and had a great time sipping coffee and people-watching. Went there three days in a row because of the casual, unpretentious atmosphere! Music is good and some interesting art on the walls too!
We stopped in on our way from Kunming to Vietnam, only planning to spend one night. We met some great foreign locals who invited us to stay a couple of more days to attend this cafe's crazy party- So glad we did. What fun and friendly people, a truly memorable experience from our China trek.

A bit of a merry band of pranksters rooming around the center of Yuxi City, sitting out front of the Fin du Monde Cafe...
This is a place of romance and of cultural exchange!
This place is a rare treat in an area of China that sees very few foreigners, Yuxi Yunnan China. This establishment is located in the Xiao Miao Jie District and the drinks are refreshing, the atmosphere is uniquely interesting, and the music selection is brilliantly stimulating. The place is stacked with fun loving people and the owner is a wealth of information for any traveler passing through this off-the beaten-path.
