Mac's American Bar - Sabana Sur - Reviews & Contact Details

Wow, I am blown away at how terrible they could treat me. I was told by some friends that I could watch the NHL Stanley Cup finals at Mac's Sports Bar. So I spent about $7 to take a taxi over to the place. I was the only customer in the bar at around 6pm when the game started. It was fairly obviously I was very much interested in the game as I was sitting on the edge of my seat. The bar has about 5 TVs and during the second period they TURN OFF THE GAME and switch all the TVs to the NBA finals. I asked nicely for them to turn on the hockey game on just one TV and they said, "sure, in 1 hour we may be able to do that". WTF? Of course I became very upset and tried to explain that it was the final game and there were multiple TVs but they still did not put the game on. Obviously I left and now I'm motivated to write this review.

Just had a quick meal hamburger and fries and a beer, for Costa Rica standard was expensive $7, staff are less than friendly the place is filthy and the food tasted coming out of a trash can got sick from the food at night, American bar is right with really wear people, stay away its a dump.

Mac's American Bar is located in Sabana Sur, Costa Rica. For those not in the know, Sabana Sur is a suburb of San Jose, the capital. Mac's is known for Gringo sports and food. Depending on the day you'll; see ex-pats swillin drinks and swapping war stories, end up in a wall to wall party when the country's soccer team plays, hear one of the local blues bands or see some of the regulars and tourists take in an american football or basketball game. They have about ten televisions that get just about anything from the states and are more that happy to change to anything you like. (Most of the time) They have an upstairs patio area with pool tables and view of the mountains and Sabana Park. The food is mostly good. I recommend the TC Burger, especially if you've grown tired of the local fare of gallo pinto and dislike fast food. The beer is cold and not completely out of a travels budget. They have a free wireless network for travelers with a laptop and a computer station that you can check your email at for free. The regulars are friendly and always willing to help with directions or suggestions or whatever. If you need a vacation from your vacation in Costa Rica or just want to see your team play.
