The Bar y Restaurante Antiguo Poás is in the heart of San José on avenida 7, calle 3 y 5. It is located in the historic Barrio Amon district and near the Pangea Hostel, as well as many other hotels and hostels. It is frequented by backpackers from all over the world and I was so pleased to meet many interesting folks there. It is a very friendly neighborhood bar with excellent local food at really modest prices. You won’t go hungry there! You can actually get a REAL American-style breakfast anytime, or gourmet chili, hot dogs or chili dogs if you like! English is spoken there as the owner is a native of Illinois. He’s got happy hour prices every day and liquor prices there are very cheap anyway, dollar beers and all. Harry, the owner, is a real nice guy and extremely helpful.
