I sat down in a restaurant in Brugge a couple of years ago and said to the restaurant owner Give me your most interesting and flavourful and unusual beer. She came back, smiling, with a glass of Kasteel. I was completely sold on the taste. A wonderful tasting and satisfying beer. I cant recommend the taste enough. Strangely as a side effect it makes you giggle a lot for some reason (probably the blend of alcohols and ethyls). Very easy on the head despite 11% (same effect from drinking dwindling supplies brought back) For people who always wanted to enjoy Guninness but didnt like the bitterness, now you can. Nearest beer in the UK I can think of is Ram Tam from Time Taylors.
I had my first Kasteelbier just last weekend in Brugge Belgium. With the 11% listing I was expecting something strong and harsh. NOT AT ALL!!! Smooth pleasent taste. No need to "aquire" a taste for this beer...tasty.
When my dad gave me my first Kasteelbiereke I was sold to drink this beer everytime when I was sitting with my dad in the garden.
It's a nice tastefull dark beer from 11%. Some people think it's kinda sweet beer but I think it's just perfect flavoured.
This is that kind of beer you never drink from pressure and let you enjoy the living in a real beerworld.
