Xingu - Review from Anne L.
I started this brand in 1986- and can speak with some authority the subject - Xingu Beer is black from the dark roasted malt that is used. It is a true black lager style not an ale- so it will not taste like a stout. In contrat to the dark color the beer is surprisingly light in taste -very smooth with a bittersweet finish. The name was not chosen haphazardly - I decided on the name Xingu to bring attention to the indiginous people of the Amazon regions, specifically the Xingu River area -where women have brewed fermented beverages - from manioc root and other local ingredients for thousands of years. I consider this beer a tribute to their culture and history. I also was interested in resurrecting a lost style of beer from Brazilian culture- cerveja preta was nearly extinct when I travelled to Brazil in 1986 - we found a newly renovated micro brewery in Santa Catarina to produce this style for export. Nearly 20 years later - Xingu is sold in Brazil and the US and is a popular alternative to pale lagers. I welcome any questions or comments about the beer. It is truly unique in flavor -and I also recommend that it be tried -at least twice...

I was looking for information concerning Xingo Black Beer which I had just purchased at my local grocery. I like it very much and concur with most reviews that rate it highly. I was quite surprised to find that I was not just drinking another Stout. I would appreciate a little knowledge about how it is made and how you came to make it. Thank you.
Tom
