While in Ghana back in July i did indulge in some good old star, and i must say the taste is so beautiful, however I'd also like to mention that alvora, the non alcoholic pineapple beer over there is also rather delicious!

I visited Ghana in March of 2009 and had the pleasure of drinking Star in various parts of the country. It is a very good lager and well suited to the tropics - wish I could have one during this hot, humid summer of 2010 in northern Ohio.

I grew up in Kumasi, Ghana were my dad was a brewer and made star beer, I only wish I was old enough at the time to have sampled some. Does anyone know if its possible to purchase in the UK, I manage a pub in Edinburgh and am trying to get hold of some to sell!

When workin ghana the best thing was wen i was finished goin gettin a nice cold star :)

Nothing beats a cold refreshing Star beer after a long hard day of work in Ghana. I must say coming from Canada, Star is very comparable to some of the beers back home. It wil howeverl never take the place of a Sleemans Honey Brown or Kokane.

We love Star Beer, and think it is the best beer in Ghana!

Before my visit to Ghana on June 23, 07, I did not drink a lot of beer. Star beer is excellent and I want to purchase it in the USA. Where can I find this beer.

Oh ye wanna be beer drinkers. The best thing about Star beer is saying that you have drank it. That said, this is just a ploy to market justt another sub-standard beer. Granted the weather does promote slugging a cold one. Chioice is somewhat limited, so with that in mind, order that Star and suffer the weather.

A month working out in Nigeria - Kano was made all the more enjoyable by knocking back 6-7 stars a night. Not the best beer in the world but a lot better than a Harp!! The only problem I had was the fly I once poured out into my glass from the bottle........I was told its a special prize!!!

Star is by far one of the best tasting beers on the Planet. I enjoyed going to the beach in Accra and sipping on Star and also going to Kumasi and drinking star in the restaurants. I look forward to going back to Ghana and drinking my Star and mingling with the warriors.

If you spend any time in Ghana, you come to recognize how much tribal backgrounds play in social relationships. Star is an Ashanti beer, brewed in the capital of the Ashanti territory, Kumasi. If you tell an Ashanti guy that Star is the best, you have made a friend for life. (Not to mention, that it is a very good beer.)

Best Tasting Beer by Far!!!! I enjoyed Star for a month while I was staying in Cape Coast in Ghana.... They really need to bring it over to the States!!!!

star is an excellent beer, especially if you like lagers and/or beck's and heineken. as someone previously mentioned, the best part about drinking star is that you get to do it with ghanaians. if you find yourself in ghana, drink some stars and enjoy one of the friendliest cultures in the world. as far as bars, i recommend the bus stop and the celsbridge, both in accra.

We considered the Star beer very pleasant, nice to drink under the hot hot heat. The big bottles are cool. Although we do have better beer in Belgium, we are still jaleous of the size of the bottles. By the way...Ghana is the max! If anyone has and idea how I would get a hold of Star Beer (big bottles - blue label) inside of Europe, please let me know! cheers, roel (rvanny_1999@yahoo.com).

Star beer is fine. Enjoy the ghanaian atmosphere, e.g. sittin' at Harbour View, Takoradi, drinking this chilled drink and looking around. It's no premium beer, but the roaring heat makes it become the true feeling of Ghana. So just enjoy. Best you drink only one bottle under the sun. Otherwise you would regret. (Though, you wouldn't see the plastic waste laying around any longer...).

Frankly Star beer is disgusting, Club's only slightly better.....but if you really want a decent drink i recommend STONE LAGER, this really is the pick of the bunch, only launched a couple of months ago by Accra Breweries, looks set to take over the mantle from Star, better taste more alchol per Cede.....get a cold one sit back and enjoy. Cheers

It's brewed by Heineken is good old Star Beer. I had my first one at the tender age of 10, way back in '97 and now it's a bit of a ritual that the first port of call after leaving the airport is the Aerostar Bar for a swift one. Although it says 5.5% on the bottle, sometimes it'll be about 1% other about 7% depending on what mood the brewery's in. Word of advice is stay clear of Club beer. It's terrible for hangovers. As for the Akpeteshi gin... if you want to live, avoid that too.

I have lived between Nigeria and Ghana for 30yrs am now living back in the U.K. but will surely retire back to Ghana just to spend my dying days drinking the best lager in the world Star Beer and watching the pretty girls go by a rating of 10 is far too small !!!!!!!!!!

Star beer has a relatively nice taste, but I must disagree with all the other wannabee's who happen to have stopped by the safest country in west africa on their quest to get a story to tell in their local bar back home in order to pick up chicks: Star is adequate. No more, no less. Someone made a point of the atmosphere in Ghana (or the ret of Africa for that matter), which noone can deny, but the atmosphere would be as good, if not better, with a chilled satchet of water, or a freshy cracked coconut on Kokrobite Beach. Beer's got nothing to do with it, and for my money I'd say go for Club, another local beer in Ghana. Accra Breweries, the brewers of Club, has better quality control, and where Star tastes wastly different from case to case, a case of Club is pretty much the same all over. Also, I find the taste of yeast to be slightly too pronounced in Star. And to the person who likened Star to Bud: have yoiu drunk both? Star actually has a TASTE, although the nature of which can be argued..

Star beer. There's nothing greater. Almost every night I was in Woe (small village on the coast) a couple other volunteers and I would walk the dark dark raod to the Happy Corner. We would sit outside and drink all of their chilled Stars. It's the taste of Ghana.

Well in all honesty it doesnt have alot of competition so its easily at the top of the beers in Ghana and perhaps West Africa, its great at the end of a long work days sitting back with a few friends, affordable, good and eassily accesible. beer for under a dollar, how much better can I get?

"SIT TOGETHER AND RELAX" A wonderful beer that goes great with fufu and goat meat stew. Star beer is just as good as fresh palm wine, cool, smooth and satisfying. Oh how I long for those sun filled days at Big Milly's Backyard and the seemingly endless days at the health care clinic in Boamadumasi to be put to rest with an ice cold Star beer.

Ahhh the refreshing taste of Star. I too have sampled this wonderful lager under the thatch rooftops of many small Ghanaian bars. Star has a simple smooth taste not unlike Budweiser, but unique to West Africa. It packs a punch at 5.5 percent alcohol and should never be enjoyed in anything other than a recycled 22oz. green glass bottle. If you are ever in Accra I recommend picking one up at a small bar on the side of Freetown Ave near the University of Ghana called Get in Touch.

Star is pretty good! I drank alot of it over there. Try to stay away from apoteshan (local gin) if you're not a local, unless it's ginger flavored. Gross. Plus it can bring on a pretty hefty attack of malaria.

If you ever have the chance to visit the fine country of Ghana, make sure to find your way to one of the small, palm-roofed reggae-blasting establishments that serves up a tall, cold Star beer. Just the thing to take the bite off of the humid equatorial air, the only thing more refreshing than the Star will surely be the conversation with the friendly Ghanaians you meet. By far the best part about Star is that it comes standard in a tall-boy 22oz. bottle all for less than a 80 cents American. Its a smooth lager beer, not unlike your typical American-style lager, but you don't drink Star because of the award-winning taste, you drink it for the amazing atmosphere for being in sub-Saharan West Africa.
