Wow, I had never heard of this ale. I tried it because it was on the shelf at a Food Lion grocery store and it caught my eye. It is now one of my most favorite and recommended ales. I have had beers, ales, bocks, etc, from my travels throughout the world, and this one is highly recomended! Now, for a sip...

Why is it that smithwicks is a smooth textured ale in ireland and very nice indeed, yet in the states, its carbonated and gassy like a lager? This goes for all the ales in the US. The only uncarbonated beer over there is guiness from my experience and that wasnt too bad. answers?

Was just in Ireland in July 08, and had Smithwicks (Smit-icks as the locals pronounce it). Thoroughly enjoyable beer!!

you can find it in specialty shops. im have a cold one right now...but i gotta say its a toss up between sw and beamish red. they are so good. but i have never had sw in ireland just b/r. ohh and its about 11.00 for a six pack but i still feel a good buzz off of two. its made by guinness.

Spent 3 days in Dublin...and I can say that the Irish beer served there is much better than what we get here in the US. I enjoyed the Smiddicks..ful flavored but not heavy like a Guiness.

Just drank this beer for the first time and it immediately became my number one, over Chimay Red. Goes down smooth and easy like Guiness but not bitter.

If you truly love Smithwicks then the two best pints I have ever had where poured at the Pilot House and also The Toucan in Kingston, On. Canada. This is where art meets beer. Got to Love The Smithwicks.

A friend brought some to a party I was having. I am not a big fan of most import beers but absolutely loved it. This is one import I will purchase again and always have stock in my refrigerator.

I am Kevin Smithwick ancesstor of Noah Smithwick and I have say that Irish Red Ale is one of best thing I have ever tasted. It is a shame that Smithwicks is not widely exported America and even more since it is part of my family history.

Drank Smithwicks on my trip to the Emerald Isle in '99. Haven't touched a Miller Lite since. I found it in an Irish grocery in the suburbs of Chicago and now buy it by the case. I always have some on hand for my guest to sample. It is becoming more widely available in local large liquor stores and even in some Osco Drug stores. Amazing beer!!!

My town has the 2nd biggest celebration in the states i thought. Maybe first, people come from all over to our towns parade its crazy. I asked for an MGD at my favorite local irish pub (wanted cheap). They didnt have so i asked for a Bass...they ran out, he recommended Smithwicks. Maybe even better than guinness

I first tried this beer in Savanah Georgia, where they have the second biggest St. Patti's Day party in the world second only to Dublin, 2 years ago. I wanted an amber but this looked a little too dark. I tasted it and have been absolutely involved with it ever since. I ask everywhere i go if bars have it but i can count on my right hand how many i've found smithwicks at. My friends now love it also.

I first tasted this beer at Sean Kelly's in New Orleans. I have nothing but good to say about it. I normally drink Warsteiner Dunkel so its a little more on the light side but it absolutely won my tastebuds over.

Found Smithwicks (or Smitticks as the locals call it) during our recent trip to Ireland. Found it and ordered a case as soon as I got back to the States. Love it!

Smithwicks is an industrially brewed beer without any redeeming factors but in Ireland the dominance of Guniness who brews Smithwicks ensures you cannot get any decent beer in the Republic.

Found this great beer in Mulligan's in Nashville right after the first of the yearon tap . Thought it was great . then found it in Louisville at Krogers in bottles . Taste is not nearly as good as on tap. Found it again on tap at The Local (an Irish pub) in Minneapolis . It was great/

A friend brought some bottles of this back as a present. It's a pretty typical smooth ale; it lacks real flavour and finish and is somewhat bland but is considerably better than most other Irish beers, including Guinness. Could be very interesting if cask conditioned to allow the flavour to mature, but I do not think they do this. I can only assume that those who rave over it have never drunk a good real ale which would completely beat it out of sight.

I found this at Celtic Knot here in Evanston, IL. Delicious. I also had a draught of Boddington's for the first time. Very nice.

I think my experience in Dublin over St. Patrick's Day, 2006, made my experience a little biased. The beer was excellent when standing in a non-Temple Bar tourist trap. Would I drink it in the States... probably not. For all of you mouth breathers, the place to buy it is hitimewine.net. Cheers to all of my alcohol loving brothers and sisters!

I tried Smithwicks on the Riverwalk in San Antonio,Tx.And this is the smoothest, best, most refreshing without being to heavy or filling beer,I have ever enjoyed. I have tried to find it in Oklahoma, but cannot. My friends and I would buy it by the cases if it were available here! Please consider this request!!!!! Sincerely,Leslie

Smithwicks. .......................... You can get it here in the states. If you live anywhere thares a Winn Dixie grocery store, they are now selling 6 packs (about $8)..... if you are in Florida somewhere, both Winn Dixie and Publix have it. If you want the real deal draft special, hit your Murphy's Law, or your local Irish pub and they should be carrying it by now. Enjoy !

Had Smithwicks for the first time in Boston, then here in Miami during a Reneissance Fair and during St Pattys day. Now local stores are starting to sell it by the 6pack. Awsome ale.

I first had this beer at a place in Bethesda Maryland, I think it was Flanagan's, not sure. I have since been able to purchase it at a local Liquor store. Just recently, I noticed that one of the caps had printed on the inside a picture of the logo castle. Does anyone know of any significance to this? I was just wondering. It is a delightful ale.

I tried it at an anual Irish festival. Never head of it before, but it was just great off tap. Really smooth with a great balance of flavors, nothing too overwhelming. Absolutely fantastic.

Smithwicks is an easy nine. It's available in Western Maryland now,(2-06) Excellent beer anytime and in multiples. Not too heavy, either.

I just purchased a six pack of this stuff (which is now imported). It is terrible. I don't know if it's because it isn't in it's homeland... or if it's just because it's bad. Give me a Sprecher any day! I'll still give this a 6 based upon it's taste relative to really bad beers.

Down in Austin @ Mother Egan's Irish Pub. Smithwicks is one of the best beers I've encountered. Can't find it around this part of town.

I frist tried Smithwicks at the renaisance festival and it was the best, usally I drink Corona. After the festival I tried to find out where I could by some, not much luck. Then I found an small Irish Restaurant and they had Smithwicks which was great. But for two long years I found some at Publix but I don't know for how long for I picked up the last one on Sunday, haven't checked since. Maybe I'll check on friday.

i'm fifty years old and have experimented with beer drinking for a long time, back when you had to open a Carling Black Label with a can opener, and after tasting and roaming the earth for half a century I came to the conclusion that Sam Adams was the best tasting beer for its affordability. Buth Smithwicks has dethroned Sam Adams, being slighlty smoother but with more flavor, and like they say "less filling." It's a perfect pub beer that doesn't bloat you up like a toad and have you heading to the john every thirty minutes. The good news for me is we have an Irish Pub right here on the square in Marietta, Georgia. I don't have to go to Ireland.

When I first tasted Smithwick's, I found the pot of gold that the leprechaun is always talking about! Hells Yeah! Best beer ever!

FYI, Smithwicks (pronounced Smith-ics) is sold at many irish pubs in the greater syracuse, ny area as well as at almost all irish pubs in Boston, MA. It can even be found in MD and VA. I don't know about out west but in the east if you look you can find it. Its still not real big at the stores or non-irish pubs. Goog luck and enjoy many fines nights of irish beer. Erin Go Bragh.
